What will my child be doing in the Nursery?
After a little while we get together for our greeting song and register. We sit together on the carpet for a short story or game and talk about what is available to play with today. As we have a wide range of abilities within Nursery we often have carpet times in separate smaller groups so children’s needs can be more closely met and they will be challenged and not bored!! Then it’s off to get busy all around the setting!
The children choose where they would like to play from activities set up around all the rooms ( including outside) that are based upon the 7 areas of learning within the ‘Foundation Stage Curriculum’ (Communication and language, Personal social and emotional development, Literacy, Mathematics, Expressive Arts and The world). Whilst the children are playing they have the opportunity to choose when they have snack which is fruit or vegetables and a drink of milk or water.
Mid session we get together in key person groups for talking and learning opportunities in a smaller group. This is a great chance for us to get to know your child and help them to build friendships as well as developing key skills such as listening and turn taking. They also love playing games and learning new songs as well as doing simple team challenges.
Then it’s back to more play with the session ending with songs and a story before home time or lunch.
Throughout the day our staff are supporting free play activities- modelling what to do, developing vocabulary and supporting interactions and behaviour. Staff also lead directed tasks to challenge children in specific areas of learning and to ensure everyone makes good progress.
We hope your child has a great time with us in Nursery and we look forward to working closely with you throughout the year!
