My Personal Best at Grove Street
Mr Matthews uses the Youth Sport Trust's My personal Best programme to use PE to teach skills such as co-operation, responsibility and resilience, helping our children to recognise and transfer them to other lessons, to life in school and to their wider environment.
In September, our new sports coach Mr Scott will be joining Mr Matthews to deliver weekly My Personal Best lessons to every child at Grove Street.
"The My Personal Best Primary resource and related training supports primary teachers to plan and explicitly teach life skills and character through PE. This not only supports the personal development of all pupils in and through PE, but also makes connections to other lessons, school and wider life. It ensures the transferability of their skills." Mr Matthew's development of this programme at Grove Street is gaining national interest. He was recently approached by the YST and asked to contribute to their Inspire magazine. Following on from this, he was asked,
"Following the article you kindly did for our Inspire magazine on My PB, we have been working with HuffPost on a story they are writing about PBs and measuring them differently. They were interested to hear about our programme and the work you have been doing in your school and wondered if you might be happy to have a chat about it?."
The link below is Mr Matthew's article for HuffPost which has now gone live.
In the next few months, Mr Matthews and Mr Scott will be working with other local PE Leads to share their ideas and expertise on MPB.
We are very proud of Mr Matthews and all he has achieved for the children of Grove Street and himself. We can't wait to see what he and Mr Scott will achieve together next!
