Attendance Support

"The impact of the school’s therapeutic work on families has also been highly significant.
The Family Support Lead has strengthened communication, trust and relationships
between home and school, enabling earlier and more effective support for families
experiencing challenges. Staff go above and beyond to support families practically and
emotionally. For example, when parents are struggling to get children into school, the
Family Support Worker may collect children from home and then follow up with
parents later in the day to offer reassurance and support. Families describe feeling
valued, listened to and not judged, which has strengthened engagement and contributed
positively to attendance. The school’s therapeutic approach therefore extends beyond
children themselves and recognises the wider family context as central to wellbeing and
success."  IQM Flagship Report May 2026

At Grove Street, we understand that there may be times when getting your child to school is more challenging. We are committed to working in partnership with families and offer a range of support to help improve attendance.

Our support includes:

  • A Dojo message home on the first day of absence.
  • A phone call from the school office.
  • Support from our Therapeutic Team to help your child attend school regularly.
  • A Dojo message outlining the number of days missed and the amount of learning time lost.
  • ELSA and therapeutic support for children and families.
  • Attendance letters sent home.
  • Family support meetings with Enid Kenney, Family Support Lead.
  • Support meetings with Sharon McCrudden, Locality Attendance Officer, if attendance falls below 90%.

If attendance does not improve despite the support offered, the school may request a Notice to Improve. This may lead to a Penalty Notice being issued by the Local Authority.
