SEMH

Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties is one of four broad areas of need that is used when identifying and supporting individual difficulties in children.

This area of need can cover a wide range of challenges that a child may experience, they include:

  • being withdrawn
  • isolated
  • disruptive behaviour
  • challenging behaviour

In order to support children who may display such behaviours, school provides a range of strategies and interventions such as ELSA, reward charts, opportunities to work in the middle bay, access to calming areas in class and around school, time out and/or brain breaks. Some children may require a higher level of support and where this is the case, advice is sought from outside agencies such as Gilbrook Outreach or the ADHD Foundation. Support may also be provided from an Educational Psychologist.
